2008 Olympics Protest

By chenpeiyi

This edition of Olympics has become the most intersting because of activist protesting China(‘PRC’) handling of protest in Tibet, and its poor human rights record. There are some chinese dissidents are unhappy with their current political system. In 2004, there is a quit CCP campaign(ninecommentaries.com) to pressure the Communist Party to make political reform.

From an ordinary han chinese viewpoint, the protest grew violent and therefore needs to be suppressed. However, activist claimed there is agent provocateur, instigated by CCP. This situation has given CCP political support out of fear of ethnic seccesion.

The ethnic Tibetians claimed there is discrimination although the CCP government gives them preferential treatment to them as minorities(which in turn alienate the Han Chinese) like ethnic autonomy and exemption from 1 child policy. There must be something wrong in Tibet where the central government does not see. It is estimated about 2000 people escaped to Dhramasala (where H.H. Dalai Lama resides) and we must ask ourselves why the Tibetians willing to be a 2nd class citizen in India(Himachal Pradesh) than be a 1st class citizen in China(as a minority group)? Is there something wrong with their political system? Is it due to poor human rights? Then it seems that all ethnic group suffer from poor human rights.

BTW, its not proper to politicise the Olympics.

Therefore, if the chinese want to change the situation, they(Pro-democratic and chinese minorities interest group ) should cooperate to form a united front without much direct support from foreign NGO. A support from Hong Kong and Macau based group would be perfect.

I am Tibetan raised in Nepal, India and then move to USA. My family is victim to CCP. Both my uncle were killed by PLA in 1959. My father escaped and join the resistance movement in exile. If chinese truely think Tibet as one of their minority, respecting our religous and cultural belief must be protected. CCP always has tried to buy Tibetan through money, infrasructure which proved failure last march. We need peace in mind not the big buildings. It cost CCP a billions of dollars to mantain peace in Tibet. if CCP has respected the wishes of Tibetan, religious freedom, not banning the picture of Dalai lama there would not have any problem. Dalai lama is our god king which has a very special bond that goes back 645 years and CCP cannot erase this in 50 years. every year around 2500-3000 Tibetan escape to see thier religious leader risking their lives in mountain of himalayas to reach the plains of India. so many lives have lost, children amputed afetr frostbite.. to many story to tell..CCP version of Tibetan autonomous region is not even close to term autonomy. it is basically all run by the CCP itself. CCP is creating a division between Tibetan and han to serve their purpose. many sympathatic chinese who have visited Tibet, mingled with Tibetan has all different stories about the nature and the general kindness and how welcoming Tibetan people are. Belief me Tibetan people have no any political ambition. we live by what we practice thats the teaching of buddha and our god king Dalai lama. my motto. NO SEPARATION NO PERSECUTION”

I also wanted to take a group of han chinese, right activist, democratic movement groups of china and chinese friends of Tibet to India. so that they can see by themself how Tibetan refugees are living. meet the recently escaped Tibetan from Tibet. visit the headquarter of Tibetan youth congress, which CCP acused of being a terrorist organization and meet the His HOliness the Dalai lama and Karmapa personally so that you all know first hand account what we are doing and demanding. this is my dream and create a bridge between our two communities.

Well, Ten Cho, I’m a 4th generation overseas chinese, where my great grandfather has been blackmailed to support the Communist in Fujian province. I feel a sight of relief when you are saying the Tibetans are not asking for independence, but perception is a powerful projection, says otherwise. Please clear all the misunderstandings so that together we can overthrow the illegitimate CCP!

I am glad that atleast you didn’t fell in the trap of CCP. After the incident in Tibetan this march. one can clearly judge from the demands from protester. what they are asking is religious freedom and return of The Dalai lama back to Tibet. Chinese CCTV shows only the selected negative images and views. thats hurting the true feelings of the Tibetan people. His Holiness the Dalai lama is supreme head of Our religion and when he says he is not seeking separation from China, he means it. He is a true Buddhist practitioner and for him lying is unethic. because of his approach to non voilence, peace and compassion, he is celebrated in almost every countries he visited. at the begining, i am also very stuanch hard headed freedom fighter knowing that my land has invaded, my families killed and separated and my blood was boiling. but after listening and attending many of his holiness teaching, i changed my mind totaly. he advice us, your enemy is your best teacher and learn to love them rather than anger that will be your ultimate happiness. today i am free from that pain since i know i will be here in this earth for how long? if lucky enough, may be 80 or 90. after that i am gone so before that I will free myself from hatred and anger. any way it going deep now. i was uplifted when i knew that some chinese lawyers who volunterily came forward to help those Tibetan in needs after the march riot. at that very moment, i knew there are so many good chinese out there regardless of their political opinion. then there came a another 22 scholars and learned writers who came openly to critize CCP heavyy handed on Tibetan and even laid out 12 points to settle Tibetan issue. these are good citizen of the country who wants better future for both Tibetan and han chinese living side by side with love and friendship. government changes but the people remains. I have been involved with Tibetan china dialogue since then, this is second meeting we are doing. when we sit across and we look at each other, i don’t see any difference. we are same people who wants best of everything and happiness. similar dialogue is happening evry where, in Australia, biggest Tibetan chinese friendship association was formed by famed chinese female musician after she met with Dalai lama. there is also a group in canada. belief me since you ask, what is the big deal of independence? I can tell you almost 99%, for Tibetan, independence is free practice of religion, simple life and happiness. thats the ultimate and genuine independence. without any boundaries. people draw the lines and it can be remove by the people. I have many chinese friends now and i always tell them don’t fall under the CCP trap and propaganda. research and find your self what is ture and what is not. free Tibet means free china from CCP. if we all wants one harmonious society but under the current CCP regime it is hard to achieve unless people overthrow these few people. love to hear more from you.
